Is There an Age Limit for Paragliding?

Find out the age and weight requirements for tandem paragliding flights.

One of the most common questions we get from families and older travellers is: "Can I actually do this?" The good news is that tandem paragliding is remarkably inclusive. Here's a complete guide to age limits, weight limits, and health considerations for paragliding with Dragon Paragliding in Ölüdeniz.

Minimum Age: 5 Years Old

Children as young as 5 can fly in tandem with our pilots. Young children are naturally fearless in the air - many parents tell us their kids enjoyed the flight far more calmly than they did.

For children under 18, a parent or guardian must sign a consent form.

Practically speaking, most children aged 7 and above tend to have a more enjoyable experience, as they're better able to understand what's happening and process the views. Children under 5 are generally not accepted for safety reasons related to harness fit.

Maximum Age: 80 Years Old

There is no arbitrary "old age" cut-off for paragliding. We regularly fly passengers in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, and many describe it as one of the highlights of their lives. Age is not a barrier - health is the more relevant consideration.

If you are over 65, we simply ask that you have no serious cardiovascular conditions or recent surgical procedures that could be affected by the physical demands of the launch and landing.

Weight Limits

For safety and equipment reasons, the following weight limits apply:

  • Minimum weight: approximately 15 kg (smaller children may not fit the harness safely)
  • Maximum weight: 110 kg under normal conditions

Weight limits exist because the glider's performance, harness strength, and launch dynamics are all calculated based on the combined weight of pilot and passenger. Exceeding the limit is not simply a policy decision - it is a genuine safety matter.

If you are close to the 110 kg limit, please let us know when booking. On some days with stronger thermals and ideal conditions, pilots may be able to accommodate slightly heavier passengers. This is always assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Health Considerations

Tandem paragliding is a low-impact activity during flight - you sit in a harness, relax, and enjoy the view. The most physically demanding moments are the few running steps at launch and the brief walk at landing. However, the following conditions may prevent you from flying:

You should not fly if you have:

  • A serious heart condition or recent cardiac event
  • Epilepsy (unless cleared by your doctor)
  • A recent surgery or injury affecting your mobility
  • Severe vertigo or balance disorders
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • A shoulder or hip condition that would be aggravated by the harness

You can usually fly with:

  • Mild anxiety (this is very common and our pilots are experienced at making nervous passengers comfortable)
  • Mild motion sickness (morning flights tend to be smoother; avoid heavy meals beforehand)
  • Glasses or contact lenses (wrap-around sunglasses or goggles are recommended)

Pregnancy

We do not fly pregnant passengers. This is a firm policy for the safety of both mother and baby.

If You Are Unsure

If you have any medical condition and are unsure whether you can fly, the best approach is to consult your doctor before booking and then speak with us directly. We'd rather have an honest conversation than have you arrive at the launch site and be turned away.
